Single Camera vs Multi-camera
The single-camera setup is where a programme or a show is shot using one camera, unlike the multi-camera setup where there is more than one camera.
This is good for live shows like Celebrity Juice, Sky Sports and many more. This is good for this as it’s easy to change camera, when there is more than one focal point like on game shows. The single is good the used for documentary where you are on location. As well as this it’s used in film.
The advantage of this is that it’s very flexible to use, as well as this its amazing using on location. It’s easier to set up and will cause you to carry less equipment.
An advantage to using the multi-camera setup is that you can get peoples reactions with close ups from other cameras. You can get shots from all angels, and even gain crowd reaction shots.
A disadvantage to using the single-camera setup it would take a long time to put and edit a show together. As well as this you may have missed key parts of emotion as a filmmaker you would not want to miss.
A disadvantage to using the multi-camera setup you have to have more equipment this means that it will cost you more money. As well as this you will have to higher more crew, which also cost more money. It also hard to keep continuity, as there will be more cuts and edits.
Sometimes you might see the multi-camera setup in a single-camera programme. This will occur normally in films where there is a stunt and it can only be filmed once. For instance in Casino Royal the car crash scene.
